SAN ANTONIO - Texas has started broadcasting live images of the U.S. border on the Internet in a security program that asks the public to report signs of illegal immigration or drug crimes.
A test Web site went live Thursday at texasborderwatch.com with views from eight cameras and ways for viewers to e-mail reports of suspicious activity. Previously, the images had only been available to law enforcement and landowners where the cameras are located.
"There is only one way to test it, and that's open it up for business," said Texas Homeland Security Director Steve McCraw.
The United States Air Force has commissioned a new command to operate solely in cyberspace and to use it as an arena for war. I think that the Air Force is the most forward looking of all the military branches and they got this idea right. We need to find and destroy the enemy where ever they operate and if that is in cyberspace so be it.
“The aim is to develop a major command that stands alongside Air Force Space Command and Air Combat Command as the provider of forces that the President, combatant commanders and the American people can rely on for preserving the freedom of access and commerce, in air, space and now cyberspace,” Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne told an industry conference.
According to Yahoo News there may be a verdict in the first case against Saddam Hussein in a few days. That’s one small drop for man, one giant leap for mankind.
A new spin-off of Battlestar Galactica called Caprica has been green lighted.
“It’s the story of the creation of the Cylons,” says Moore. “We’re trying to do something different within the genre and give a different flavor to the material than Battlestar Galactica does.”
BSG fans rejoice! If the new series is half as good as BSG, it will be better than 90% of TV shows.

He’s left with the argument that he misquoted himself while trying to show off his supposed intellectual superiority over George Bush, and that it’s all Bush’s fault despite being Kerry’s intellectual inferior. Really, no one could have scripted a more hilarious scenario, and the longer Kerry continues this line of defense/offense, the more ridiculous a figure he becomes.

“While the general public has taken kindly to the Xbox 360‘s dashboard, nothing inspires change more than last-minute panic. Perhaps sensing big things on the way from the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft has an pretty hefty UI update (85 new features) ready to deploy tomorrow morning.
The biggest new feature on the way is the addition of the ability to output 1080p”

The German author Henryk M. Broder recently told the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant (12 October) that young Europeans who love freedom, better emigrate. Europe as we know it will no longer exist 20 years from now. Whilst sitting on a terrace in Berlin, Broder pointed to the other customers and the passers-by and said melancholically: “We are watching the world of yesterday.â€
… Broder is convinced that the Europeans are not willing to oppose islamization. “The dominant ethos,†he told De Volkskrant, “is perfectly voiced by the stupid blonde woman author with whom I recently debated. She said that it is sometimes better to let yourself be raped than to risk serious injuries while resisting. She said it is sometimes better to avoid fighting than run the risk of death.â€
… In a recent op-ed piece in the Brussels newspaper De Standaard (23 October) the Dutch (gay and self-declared “humanistâ€) author Oscar Van den Boogaard refers to Broder’s interview. Van den Boogaard says that to him coping with the islamization of Europe is like “a process of mourning.†He is overwhelmed by a “feeling of sadness.†“I am not a warrior,†he says, “but who is? I have never learned to fight for my freedom. I was only good at enjoying it.†“
This from our friend Britt:
“Two illegals abducted, raped, and carved-up the daughter of an old friend of mine. She was stabbed 15 times and left for dead. Someone told me they could just have as easily been American citizens; to that, I say, fact is they were two illegals, hypothetical’s aside. She has reported to Texas Tech to start her freshman year. She has massive scars many across her face. She has a large body cast which hold her arms up as both arms were basically totally cut from her body, only some skin and a little muscle held them on. I sat with her Grandmother the other day and the girl is determined not to let this define her future, she is 18 years old.”
So here are two questions. Is Britt a racist because he points out that these butchers are Mexican nationals in the country illegally? Am I a racist because I blogged his comments? I am guessing there are many who would say yes to both. They would be wrong.
Ubuntu is a fairly new version of Linux, that is by far the most user friendly of any Linux version. For those who are novices and have no experience with Linux or are more technically savvy, I would suggest going to ubuntu.com and downloading the ubuntu .iso and burn the image to a CD. Ubuntu runs as a “live” CD, which meas that it will run the operating system from the CD and will not touch your harddrive or change anything on your system. If one decides that they like it one can install the OS right from the live CD. For some excellent tutorials try ubuntuclips.org.
The Technology Liberation front has a very good post on the similarities between what we are witnessing in the fight against DRM and the stages of grief. If you are not aware of what DRM is and why it is bad check here.

Today the UN Security Council passed a unaninous resolution regarding North Korea. I don’t know how much faith I have in this, but it is a small step in the right direction.
The Entertainment Consumers Association is a new political action group designed to give gamers a voice in this new climate of video game legislation. “Paul Ray Smith (September 24, 1969 – April 4, 2003) was a United States Army Sergeant First Class who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Operation Iraqi Freedom while serving with B Company, 11th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division in Baghdad, Iraq. Smith’s actions in Iraq were the most recent actions for which a Medal of Honor was awarded. He was also the first recipient of the Medal of Honor Flag.
…As the battle ended, Smith’s machine gun fell silent. His comrades found him slumped in the turret hatch. His armored vest was peppered with 13 bullet holes, the vest’s ceramic armor inserts, both front and back, cracked in numerous places. But the fatal shot, one of the last from the tower, had entered his neck and passed through the brain, killing SFC Smith.
…Sometime before the battle Smith had written, but not sent, an email to his parents. In it he wrote, “there are two ways to come home, stepping off the plane and being carried off the plane… it doesn’t matter how I come home, because I am prepared to give all that I am to insure that all my boys make it home.””
If you haven’t figured it out by now I am someone who likes to take in as much data as possible before I make a decision about anything. I love raw data. So here again is some more raw data:
Military Commisions Act of 2006
This bill would put “alien unlawful combatants” through military type trials. This bill is not as long as most, so it should be no problem to read and form your own conclusions. Always be wary of people who will mis-quote or take phrases out of context to further their own agenda.
